Baramulla, May 7 (KMW) Five militants and two soldiers of Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were killed in a fierce encounter going on in the woods at Rafiabad in north Kashmir. A defence ministry spokesman said troops of RR launched a search operation in the woods at Hapatnar, Rafiabad, in Baramulla district last evening following a tip off about the presence of militants there. However, when the troops were moving towards a particular area in the dense forest, militants opened fire with automatic weapons and also fired rockets. Troops also retaliated and in the fierce encounter that ensued, four militants and two soldiers were killed. Official sources said reinforcement was rushed to the area from nearby camps and entire forest area was sealed from all sides to foil any militant attempt to escape. They said one more militant was killed today and operation was still going on when the reports last came in.
