Srinagar May 4 (KMW) The main Opposition party in Jammu and Kashmir, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president and prominent women politician Mehbooba Mufti has said the current drift on political and developmental fronts could prove more dangerous for the state.
Addressing a convention at in Ropapur in Chrar-e-Sharif in the central Kashmir district of Badgam today she said a sense of drift and lack of direction had gripped the state leading to political chaos and negative growth in major development sectors.
She said the recent reports about the state’s reversal of development process were as much disturbing as the stagnation in the process of political resolution of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, rising graph of rights violations and continued recourse by the government to strong arm methods to silence dissent.
Ms Mehbooba said the entire political class of the state needs to sit up and respond to the grave realities facing the current and future generations.
''It is alarming that the state is slipping down the development scale even lower than the most backward states as pointed out in the recent studies,'' she said adding the inability of the state to benefit from even the centrally sponsored schemes was nothing less than a system's failure.
She said the expansion in administrative machinery had obviously failed to improve functional capacity as a result of week political direction and uncertainty.
