Srinagar, Jun 12 (KMW): Normal life was paralysed in Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir State, Srinagar today due to spontaneous strike in protest against the killing of a teenager allegedly by CRPF personnel in the downtown city yesterday. Police, however, denied that the teenager Tufail Ahmad Mattoo was killed by security forces and said the class xii student had died under mysterious circumstances. Shops and business establishments in the civil lines area , including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city, remained closed though there was no strike call from any separatist organisation. Transport service was plying on some selected routes in the civil lines and uptown. All the vehicles plying on downtown and Shehar-e- Khas (SeK) routes remained off the road because of curfew restrictions there. Work in the government offices, banks and other public sector undertakings in the city and its outskirts remained affected due to the strike and undeclared curfew restrictions. Civil Secretariat, the seat of the government, remained closed due to holiday on account of Saturday. All the educational institutions within the city limits were also closed as the management of most of these institutions declared a holiday in view of the tense situation. All the examinations, scheduled for today, have been cancelled due to the strike. Situation elsewhere in the Kashmir valley was however, normal with all shops and business establishments open and government offices and banks functioning as usual. Tufail was declared brought dead by the doctors at SMHS hospital where he was brought from the downtown city, where 'pro'-freedom demonstrators clashed with security forces after Friday prayers.
