Bullet hits youth, clashes, firing at Anantnag, Pulwama

Srinagar, August 30, 2010 : Violent clashes broke out in South Kashmir’s Anantnag and Pulwama district leaving at least dozens youth injured. A few cops also sustained injuries during the clashes.

A young boy was killed in Cheeni Chowk Anantnag Monday evening when the police and the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) clashed with a group of protesters in South Kashmir. Sources said troopers opened fire after protesters threw stones on their vehicles.

The death toll in the present Kashmir unrest mounted to 65 with a 12-year old minor, Irshad Ahmed Parray son of Muhammad Ashraf Parray of old Eidgah Anantnag.

He was rushed to Srinagar hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

His death has triggered protests in Anantnag.

Locals told Agence India press over on phone that people was tried to stage a peaceful rally in Sheer Bagh, Anantnag but police and CRPF stopped them forcing the youth to throw stones.

“At least a six youth got injured in the clashes. Police and CRPF opened rubber bullets one of which hit a youth Irshad Ahmad Parray in his stomach. We removed him to hospital,” they said.

Clashes also took place in Pulwama district where at least three cops and six youth got injured. Police resorted to aerial firing and tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

According to police mob attacked a police mobile bunker in Chatpora Pulwama. The mob surrounded it from all sides and tried to drag the driver out. The policeman fired in self defence injuring two persons. They injured persons have been referred to Srinagar hospital.

Meanwhile, a huge mob pelted stones on the Police Post Sherbagh in Anantnag. The police used tear smoke to disperse the stone pelters. One constable was injured. However, they did not relent and police used some rubber pallets in self defense. One youth has got injured. He has been referred to Srinagar. The youth was declared dead at SMHS Srinagar, said police.

Meanwhile, a police cop has been suspended for opening fire on youth at Maisuma, Srinagar without any provocation, police sources said Monday.

They said a policeman Feroz Ahmed belt no: 2533/s has been suspended for opening fire. The suspended cop was the PSO of SHO police station Maisuma, sources said. Four youth were injured one of them critically in the firing.
