Prayers in Dargah after 6 days

Srinagar, August 20, 2010: Prayers resumed in revered Hazratbal shrine in outskirts of Srinagar after a gap of six days on Friday.  

Eyewitness said that hundreds of people offered the Asar prayers inside shrine after it was cleaned afresh soon after the Friday Nimaz.

Earlier, thousands of people offered the congregational Friday prayers in the laws of the shrine, on outskirts of here.

“About thirty thousand devotees offered Friday prayers at the historic Hazratbal shrine in a serene and spiritual atmosphere.
 People prayed for peace and tranquility in the State,” an official spokesman said in a statement here.

The six day stalemate ended after government agreed to shift the barracks in phased manner.
No prayers were offered in the historic shrine since August 14 last, which was only for the second time in the history.

As per locals people couldn’t offer prayers during 1993 siege for days together

The trouble erupted on the Saturday last after police entered inside the shrine and beat-up a group of people there following pro-freedom slogans.

 People took exception of the beating and raised the demand of removal of police and troops. Later district administration.
