Trouble in Kashmir Continues, HMT youth succumbs

Srinagar, Aug 9(KMW): While life returned to normal in rest of the valley on Sunday, protests and stone pelting led to shutdown in parts of old city and uptown Maisuma. Meanwhile, Fida Nabi, son of Ghulam Nabi of Usmanabad, HMT succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Soura here late Sunday evening.

Fida had sustained injuries during police and CRPF action at HMT on August 3.

He was the brother of Rising Kashmir photographer, Hakeem Abid.
Clashes between protesters and police broke out in Rainawari, Bohri Kadal, Maisuma and Rajouri Kadal areas.

The protesters hurled stones at police and CRPF men who retaliated by firing tear gas canisters.

Shutdown was observed in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district against civilian killings at the hands of troops and police, protesters raised pro-freedom and anti-India slogans.

 The authorities have lifted troops’ deployment from the area following the tense situation.
In Islamabad district, markets remained opened only till 12:00 pm after which protests started in different area.

 The youth in small groups started pelting stones at Lal Chowk, Malaknag, Chini chowk, Mattan chowk and near Khanbal point.
The clashes continued till late evening. Police and CRPF who were deployed in the area have to open fire and resort to tear gassing to disperse the protesters.
