Srinagar, August 20, 2010r: Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police Friday shot dead another youth in South Kashmir’s Islamabad district while a teenager injured in CRPF firing in Sopore town of Baramulla district last evening succumbed to injuries at the SK Institute of medical sciences this morning.
The two deaths have taken the toll to 62 in the last 71 days of unrest.

18-year-old Mudasir Ahmad, son of Nazir Ahmad Hajam injured in CRPF firing in Hajjam Mohalla of Sopore town last evening succumbed to injuries at SKIMS this morning.
His death sparked off fierce clashes in Baramulla district and other parts of the Valley.
Mudasir and seven other youth were injured when a patrolling party of CRPF 177 Battalion led by an assistant commandant opened indiscriminate fire upon a group of youth in Hajjam Mohalla locality of Arampora last evening.
Mudasir was hit by at least two bullets in chest and abdomen and was rushed to SKIMS where he breathed his last this morning.
“The teenager had suffered multiple injuries in abdomen.
His intestine was ruptured. The doctors operated him last night, but he did not survive.
He died this morning,” SKIMS, Medical Superintendent, Syed Amin Tabish told KMW
Meanwhile, police has registered murder case against the CRPF for killing the teenager.
“We have filed a case Fir No 413/2010 under section 302 RPC against the CRPF.
Further investigations are on,” Station House Officer (SHO) Sopore, Aftab Ahmad said.
When Mudasir’s body reached his home this morning, several thousand men, women and children of Warpora, Arampora, Khushaal Matoo, Baba Yusuf, Chinkipora and adjoining villages defied curfew and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations.
Thousands of people participated in the funeral prayers of the slain teen at Hajjam Mohalla. Amid sobs and thunderous pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, the Mudasir was laid to rest at the ancestral graveyard.
Later in the day violent clashes erupted in many parts of the Baramulla district.
In old town, hundreds of people after offering congregational Friday prayers took to streets and staged pro-freedom demonstrations.
Shouting “We want freedom,” “Salam-O-Martyrs,” “The Kashmir we have nurtured with our blood, that Kashmir is ours!”, “Go India Go Back,” the protesters tried to march to the civil line areas.
However, a contingent of CRPF men and police deployed on the cement bridge intercepted the procession.
Forces burst tear smoke shells when the protesters tried to break the cordon. In retaliation, angry youth pelted rocks and stones on the forces sparking off violent clashes. Due to the clashes, the cement bridge presented a look of a battlefield.
Forces opened several shots in air when the defiant protesters refused to disperse. At least six people were injured in the clashes that continued till late evening.
At least twenty people were injured in CRPF and police action on protesters in Kunzer area of the district.
Reports said hundreds of people took to streets this afternoon and staged peaceful demonstrations against the recent killings. Shouting slogans, the protesters tried to march on the streets of the area.
However, CRPF and police lobbed tear smoke shells and resorted to cane charge to quell the procession. At least 20 people, reports said suffered injuries in the forces action.
Peaceful protests were also staged at Khwaja Bagh, Tapper, Pattan, Palhalan, Kreeri and other areas.
At Tapper, thousands of people after Friday prayers staged peaceful pro-freedom demonstration. The protesters were addressed by district president of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, Nazir Ahmad Hamza.

28-year-old Nazir Ahmad, son of Abdur Rehman Wani of Feroz Shah Mohalla was killed and at least twelve others, four among them suffered gunshots when CRPF and police fired upon a peaceful procession in Bijbehara town of South Kashmir’s Islamabad district this afternoon. The killing triggered violent clashes that left at least fifteen people, including a few cops injured.
Reports and eyewitnesses told KMW that hundreds of people after offering congregational Friday prayers at main chowk, Bijbehara staged peaceful pro-freedom demonstration.
Shouting “We want freedom,” “Salam-O-Martyrs,” “Go India Go Back,” and anti-India slogans, the people were protesting the fresh spate of killings by troops and police across the Valley.
When the protesters reached near police station, CRPF and police burst tear smoke shells followed by random fire upon the demonstrators.
At least twelve people, four among them suffered bullet injuries in the forces action.
The injured identified as Asif Khurshid Ganai, Mohammad Iqbal Tak, Jan Mohammad Wagay, and Nazir Ahmad Wani were rushed to hospital for specialized treatment.
However, Wani who was hit by a bullet in eye succumbed to injuries on way to the hospital.
When the body of Wani was brought to his village, thousands of men, women and children poured on roads and staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations.
Shouting slogans, the people were protesting the killing of the youth.

Dozens of teargas canisters and scores of shots in air by CRPF and police failed to disperse the defiant protesters who clashed with forces till late evening. At least fifteen people, including four policemen were injured in the clashes.
Reports of post-prayer protests and clashes were also received from Shopian, Kulgam and Pulwama districts of South Kashmir.
In Pulwama, thousands of people took out a peaceful procession from bus stand. Chanting pro-Azadi slogans, the procession passed through different areas of the town before dispersing peacefully. Peaceful protests were also staged in Kakpora area.
In Shopian, at least twenty people, three among them were critically injured when CRPF and police opened fire and lobbed tear gas shells to quell the pro-freedom demonstrations that erupted after Friday prayers at Bongam, main chowk, Tak mohalla, main chowk and other areas.
Three of the critically injured youth have been removed to Srinagar for treatment.
In Srinagar, the capital city thousands of people staged pro-freedom and anti-India demonstrations today.
Reports said groups of youth took to streets in Rainawari this morning and staged demonstrations to protest the alleged atrocities of the CRPF troops and police.
Shouting, pro-Independence, pro-Islam and anti-India slogans the protesters tried to march through the streets of the area. However, CRPF troops and police confronted the protesters leading to clashes.
Forces fired several tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters who were hurling rocks and stones.
The ding-cong clashes continued for nearly an hour. However, no reports of any injury were received.

In a press release issued here this evening, a police spokesman said that barring few incidents of stone pelting in Bijbehara, Shopian, Baramulla and Handwara situation remained by and large peaceful.
The spokesman said that two people were injured when police opened fire in self defense to chase away a huge mob that tried to set police station, court complex and SDPO office on fire with petrol bombs. One of the injured youth, the spokesman said succumbed to injuries.
“Twenty policemen including an SHO were injured.
The unruly mob set ablaze two trucks and a Bike outside the police station,” the spokesman added.
