Curfew, restrictions, strike across Valley

Srinagar, Aug 11 (KMW): A strict curfew in Srinagar and some other towns in the valley, coupled with restrictions on people's movement in other places, has crippled life across Kashmir on Wednesday. Hurriyat Conference has given a call for a march to Pampore today on the eve of the death anniversary of one of the Hurriyat leaders, Sheikh Abdul Aziz.

A strict curfew is in place in Srinagar and Pampore and its adjoining areas, including Khrew and Khanmoh. Latest reports said hundreds of people have come out on the streets in Pampore, Samboora and Khanmoh and are trying to defy curfew.

On this day in 2008, People's League leader - one of the constituents of the Hurriyat Conference - was killed when police opened fire on marchers near north Kashmir garrison town of Varmul, who were marching towards the Line of Control (LoC).
